Wales

We thought it would be interesting for Robbie to learn a little bit about the other countries within the UK. He chose Wales, to start with when he was given the choice. This was a really fun theme and definitely one we will revisit and expand on. I have added my planning mind map underneath and have explained the activities we did.

Daffodil printing – resources: paper, toilet tube, scissors, yellow and green paint, paint brush.

I cut the top of toilet tube into 5 sections then rounded the top of them off into a rough petal shape. This made a great stamp that Robbie could easily hold and use. We put yellow paint into a shallow dish, dipped the stamper into the paint and stamped it onto the paper. Once this was dry Robbie added a little green stalk with some green paint and a brush.

3D Daffodil picture – resources: toilet roll tubes, scissors, cardboard (e.g. from old amazon box), paint – must include yellow, sellotape, green crayon.

We used the stamps we made for the daffodil stamping picture but cut them to a smaller size. We painted these yellow and while they were drying we found a rectangular piece of cardboard and painted it two different colours that Robbie chose. Once everything was dry we stuck the daffodil tops on to the painted background using the sellotape, we had tried Pritt-stick and stinger glue but found that the most effective method was using sellotape. Finally, we drew stalked on using green crayon.

This produces a nice picture and was fund to complete, however it was fiddly and mummy had to stick the flower tops on herself.

Welsh Cakes – Recipe here

These were lovely, something a little different and fitted in nicely with our Wales theme. Throughout baking, Robbie needed to quality test the ingredients.

Welsh Dragon Craft – resources: paper plate, crayons/pens, scissors, glue, sellotape, lollypop stick, goggley eyes.

We first cut a paper plate in half to use as the dragon’s body, then cut wings, a head and flames out of the other half. We coloured the different parts and stuck them together with Pritt-stick and Sellotape. Finally, we stuck on a lolly stick and google eyes.

Robbie loved playing with his dragon and had great fun making it. He helped choose the colours and sticking the pieces together.
