This recipe is for a Marble loaf cake, however, we used it to make tasty dinosaur and car-shaped marble cakes keeping things interesting. I adjusted the baking time slightly and checked on the cakes more regularly. They were slightly tricky to take out the silicone moulds after baking, but this didn’t take away from the fun of novelty shaped cakes. Robbie loved to help with the eggs, mixing and eating.
This recipe was also used to make Robbie’s birthday cake in the shape of a caterpillar. I baked the cake I a Bundt tin to make a doughnut-shaped cake, cut this into three sections and turned two of these the opposite way up to give the classic caterpillar shape. I then used jam and buttercream to stick the sections to gather and buttercream with food colouring through it for the icing. I didn’t have any icing sugar, however, as our local Asda didn’t have any in stock when our delivery came and I couldn’t go to the shops due to shielding (2020) so I had to use caster sugar which gave the cake this interesting textured finish.
